Giant Insects
Thank you for visiting Giant Insects!
The Giant Insect exhibit is finished for the 2022 season.
Insects
Females lay eggs among dense water plants, on floating branches in open water, depositing the eggs both above and below the surface.
When disturbed, this beetle ejects a hot poisonous chemical spray from the tip of its abdomen.
As one of the largest species of praying mantis, this mantis impersonates a flower by remaining motionless to lure prey.
Large grasshoppers can jump approximately one meter without using their wings.
Stag beetles use their large mandibles to fight off opponents but aren't aggressive to humans.
Larvae are brightly colored with two large black dots on the thorax that resemble eyes to deter predators.
