Bald Eagle Adventure
Please Note: Bald Eagle Cruises are now done for the 2026 season.
A Science Center naturalist discusses the recovery of Bald Eagles in New Hampshire, with special focus on the eagles that have nested on Squam Lake since 2003. The tour route is planned to visit areas where you are most likely to spot these magnificent birds in their natural habitat.

Cruise with a Naturalist
Learn about the rich natural history of Squam Lake with an experienced naturalist. See Common Loons and Bald Eagles and view their nesting sites when possible. Watch for other wildlife too. You never know what you might see amid Squam’s mountain ranges, charming islands, and quit coves. Each route is chosen to maximize wildlife observations, so you can discover something different on every trip.

Loon Cruise
Observe Common Loons with a biologist from the Loon Preservation Committee (LPC) and a Science Center naturalist as they share the latest news about loon conservation, biology, and monitoring. Learn about the work LPC does across the state and on Squam to protect these unique migratory birds—the only loon that breeds as far south as New Hampshire. The cruise route changes weekly and is chosen to maximize the chance of seeing loons. A portion of proceeds from Loon Cruises supports the work of the Loon Preservation Committee.

Private Charters
Private Squam Lake Boat Charters
Create lasting memories on a personalized Squam Lake boat cruise or bring wedding guests to Church Island. Host a cocktail cruise, family reunion outing, or other unique gathering on Squam Lake by chartering a private cruise customized to fit your plans. Our canopied pontoon boats and experienced tour guides are ready to help with your special event.
Operations Manager Erick Amero will personally help you arrange your charter for any occasion.
Private charter fees
- Rate: $375.00 per hour per boat
- Minimum 1.5‑hour, non‑refundable deposit required for each boat reservation
- Final payment is based on the total time boats are used, less your deposit
- Reservations are subject to availability and requested at least one week in advance

Reservations and Cancellations
- Advance reservations are required.
- Space on all cruises is limited. Everyone must make advance reservations and payment. We do not hold seats or maintain waiting lists.
- Please arrive at least 15 minutes before your cruise departure time.
Cancellations by the Science Center
- Cruises may be cancelled if fewer than four passengers are registered.
- Cruises may also be cancelled at any time due to weather, unsafe conditions, or other circumstances.
- If we cancel a cruise, we will contact passengers to reschedule for another date or issue a full refund.
Cancellations by Passengers
- If you must cancel, please call the Science Center at 603‑968‑7194 x7 to reschedule or request a refund.
- Passengers must cancel at least 24 hours before the start of the cruise to receive a refund.

Parking and Check‑in
- Squam Lakes Natural Science Center is located on Route 113 in Holderness, New Hampshire
- Park in any Science Center parking lot.
- Follow the walking path across Route 113 to Lake Cruise Headquarters.
- Please arrive 15 minutes before your cruise departure time for check‑in and boarding.
What to Bring
Be Prepared for Your Lake Cruise
Please arrive for your Squam Lake boat cruise dressed for current weather conditions and remember that it is often cooler on the water.
We recommend:
- Layers of clothing
- Rain or wind jacket
- Hat and sunglasses
- Gloves during cooler seasons
- Comfortable, non‑slip footwear is also recommended for boarding and moving around the boat.
